Meet Ashleigh

If you're paying attention, you may notice a new set of hands working behind the scenes at VHQ. Earlier this spring, we welcomed Ashleigh Martin to the team as Vivian's culinary assistant. From putting up produce, to helping Vivian prep for events, to lending a hand at the restaurants and the food truck, Ashleigh has proven herself to be a jack of all trades around here. She's a talented young cook, who's been at it for a decade and hails from Virginia Beach. We're excited to have her in Kinston.

What is your favorite vegetable?
To me, the famously-hated Broccoli is one of the most underrated vegetables. I love 'em stalk and all!

What would your last meal on earth be?
A massive mound of bucatini and bolognese and a heavy pour of Barolo from my birth year.

If you could cook for anybody, living or dead, who would it be?
I'd make an incredibly delectable yet healthy meal for Michelle Obama, then again, I'd do anything for Michelle Obama.

Your favorite way to eat eggs?
Soft scrambled

What's on your perfect pizza?
Something salty and something sweet. Yes, I'm Team Pineapple.

What's your go-to cocktail or alcoholic beverage?
Whiskey Smash or a cold IPA

What's one thing that you've learned or has surprised you about Eastern North Carolina since moving here?
The people of Deep Run cannot access Netflix and I'm outraged!

Tell us about one of your heroes.
Harriet Tubman's story is one of strength, hope and resilience.  The more I read about her, the more enthralled I become with her journey.  She's my hero.

What about that cute little convertible?
When the weather is just right I might be found driving around Kinston in a metallic green 1992 BMW 325i. She's the project car of my dad and I and also, the love of my life.
